A Carpentry Lead Hand assists his/ her foreman in executing highly technical projects to exacting standards, according to building code, on time and on budget. A lead hands’ tasks include cutting & measuring materials, using various power tools, framing, and finishing & installing wooden structures, excavating post holes, picking up materials and assisting to deliver daily productivity goals.
Expectations:
- Maintains valid driver’s license (G class)
- Completes required online safety courses as assigned before starting with the company
- Demonstrates safe working habits (consistent use of PPE, pylons set out, etc.)
- Keeps jobsite clean each day, truck and tools put away and cared for routinely
- Demonstrates consistent approach to being on time and ready to work
- Ability to anticipate helping a foreman with the next task and know how to stay productive
- From experience, demonstrates understanding of correct building standards and shows the confidence to meet installation techniques as trained by a foreman
- Strong understanding of trade tools, equipment and proper use of each tool in the appropriate application. Adeptness of operating power equipment (drill, standard skill saw, table saw, mitre saw)
- Able to follow and retain instructions to carry out assigned tasks to completion, working independently or as a team
- Ability to load/unload materials and equipment
- Demonstrates ability to stay engaged in conversation, is privy to jobsite plans, and overall goals for daily/weekly execution of work
- Quick learner. Develops a speedy knowledge of handling and working with common materials (construction lumber, pvc, siding, decking, fasteners, etc)
- Not afraid of doing a variety of tasks (Roofing, post holes, trimming, cutting)
